The Two Powers
The Two Powers
An essay focusing on the Dedicants understanding of the meaning of the "Two Powers" meditation or other form of 'grounding and centering', as used in meditation and ritual. This account should include impressions and insights that the Dedicant gained from practical experience. (300 word min)
When we work with/invoke/call the Two Powers, we become a bridge between Land and Sky, a part of all Three Realms. We become Yggdrasil/the Bilé.
As it is presented in the written material of ADF, the Two Powers meditation brings one in tune with the depths of the Earth and the lofty heights of the Sky. One’s being is filled with the dark, damp energy of the Earth's waters of potential from below and with the soaring, illuminated energy of above. Root and Branch are both connected to the trunk of self. Through the attunement one becomes aware not just of the physical plane, but of the subtle energies eternally swirling around and through us. Our roots intertwine with the decaying and living roots of the natural world of which we are a part. From above we are filled with celestial fire.
In the Earth exist the dark, swirling, chaotic waters from whence sprigns all life. To these waters does all life eventually return to decay and be reduced to mere nutrients again. It is in these waters that all os life is rooted. But this energy is unfocused and without direction. The light of the heavens is the creative drive. It is the celestial fire that provides the will to shape the chaos of potential.
When we attune ourselves in a Two Powers meditation, we call these two forces into ourselves. Or rather, we acknowledge and empower these two forces that always exist within ourselves. As I feel the two Powers are balanced within me, I discover the resources and the ability to be great, to be whole, and to stand competently among the Kindreds. From this place of balance I can work magic, direct energy, and commune with the gods. Of course, you don't have to be grounded in the essence of the two powers to work at the center of all realms, but it helps.
